China’s electric car GAC AS9 was first introduced
Chinese automaker GAC has just launched a high-performance electric car version with impressive acceleration.
Producer Chinese cars GAC (Guangzhou Auto Corporation – Guangzhou Automobile Group) will launch an all-electric supercar this year under the Aion brand. The car is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds.
The rumored electric car model called AS9 was confirmed by Mr. Feng Xingya, chairman of Guangzhou Automobile Group during the announcement of financial results. The official reveal image shows the typical low profile of a mid-engine supercar, lines reminiscent of the Ferrari SF90 Stradale.
Compared to the GAC Enplus concept that the brand introduced two years ago at the Beijing auto show, the commercial version has slightly improved in appearance. Incorporating a design language called Vector Energy, this model looks like a direct competitor to the Tesla Roadster.
In addition to AS9, the Chinese automaker also plans to launch 5 other models also bearing the Aion label, which are 3 SUV models ((Aion Y, Aion LX Plus, Aion V Plus) and two sedans (Aion S/Aion S) Plus) Currently, the most powerful product is the GAC Aion LX Plus with dual electric motors producing a combined capacity of 725 horsepower.
The electric SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds but we guess the engineers could reduce that time to take advantage of the supercar’s lighter and more aerodynamic body.
According to Car News China, GAC’s super car will cost about 1,000,000 yuan, equivalent to more than 3.6 billion, the delivery time is expected in early 2023. This price is considered very affordable compared with Western rivals such as Rimac Nevera and Lotus Evija.
