‘I don’t want them anymore,’ a Florida mother told police after allegedly killing 2 children

MIAMI – Police in Miami have arrested a 41-year-old woman in the death of her two young children after officers who answered 911 calls repeatedly hanged from her apartment where they found the body tied up .

“Come get them, I don’t want them anymore,” Odette Lysse Joassaint told officers who responded to the scene Tuesday night, according to the arrest report. Police said she was being unreasonable.

Officers entered the apartment and found a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl. A police report said the children were lying on their stomachs on the bed with their hands, feet and neck tied.

They tried to resuscitate the children until a Miami fire brigade arrived and declared them dead. Authorities have not released information on how they were killed, but the woman has been charged with two counts of murder.

It remains unclear how many calls went to 911 or whether she spoke to a dispatcher.

Miami police spokesman Michael Vega said the father did not live there at the time but said there had been at least four calls to the address in the past year about domestic violence, trespassing and disturbances. Vega said there have been no incidents involving the children and no arrests have been made.

The father, Frantzy Belval, told the Associated Press he would pick up the children every weekend and they would spend the night with him. Joassaint and Belval are both of Haitian descent, but he arrived in 1995 and she came to the US in 2015.

“She asked me to cancel the contract with the apartment to move in with her,” he said. “But she created too many problems.”

Belval said he was not aware of any mental illness diagnoses, but he said Joassaint had lost custody of the child because of the condition of an older child. The child’s father is still in Haiti.

Law enforcement is also working with the Florida Department of Children and Families, but it’s not yet clear if this is related to the previous family. The state agency did not respond to a request for information.
