Impersonating the lost son of a giant for 41 years, the man received a happy ending

Recently, a 62-year-old man from India was convicted of fraud by posing as the son of a wealthy family, making them believe he was their 41-year lost son.

Specifically, in 1977, Mr. Kameshwar Singh and his wife, Mrs. Ramsakhi Singh, living in Nalanda area, Bihar state, India, lost their son Kanhaiya Singh, then 14 years old. Thought that he would never see his son again, but in 1981, a young man suddenly came to this couple, claiming that he was their son who disappeared 4 years ago. In fact, this guy is not Kanhaiya Singh but Dayanand Gosai.

Fifteen years later, both Mr. Kameshwar and Mrs. Ramsakhi passed away. As the legal heir to his parents’ property, Dayanand Gosai inherited a lot of this family’s land and properties. He then sold them to accumulate wealth for himself.

It is known that Mr. Kameshwar and his wife are among the wealthiest landowners in the region. After finding their only son, who had been lost for 4 years, Mr. and Mrs. Kameshwar felt sorry for their son, so they only cared about him, neglecting 5 other daughters.

However, in the process of living together, Dayanand Gosai always received many doubts from family members. The mother Ramsakhi and her daughters also pointed out that Dayanand Gosai does not have the same scars from childhood as Kanhaiya. When they asked Dayanand Gosai questions to determine if he was really their relative, he did not answer. According to local media reports, Dayanand Gosai also did not recognize any of his family members when reviewing the photo album.

The newspaper said: “They showed him family photo albums but he couldn’t recognize anyone. They also took him to see teachers and tutors before but he couldn’t name them. They kept asking him about family events, his likes and dislikes, but he couldn’t answer.”

Dayanand Gosai’s presence caused this family to be divided and suspicious of each other. However, despite all that, Mr. Kameshwar and several other relatives were determined to let this “strange” son stay, allowing him to live in a house on more than 20 hectares of land.

Because of the inexplicable problems, the mother Kanhaiya and her daughters took Dayanand Gosai to court. The lawsuit dragged on for decades to no avail, until Kanhaiya’s death.

Lawyer Rajesh Kumar representing Ms. Kanhaiya said that a number of judges who tried this case have died or moved elsewhere, witnesses have also died, the pandemic has continued to hinder the proceedings.

During that time, 5 daughters were married and so was Dayanand Gosai. Currently, he has 2 children. Meanwhile, Mr. Kameshwar died in 1990 and Mrs. Kanhaiya passed away in 1995. Until the end of her life, Ms. Kanhaiya still insisted that Dayanand Gosai was not her son.

Years later, eldest daughter Vidya Singh decided to pursue her mother’s unfinished case, despite the police closing the case. However, it took her a long time to accept the petition, even having to sue to the Supreme Court of India.

In 2019, the court ordered Dayanand Gosai to take a DNA test, but he still refused. It was not until April 2022 that Dayanand Gosai was found guilty of fraud. Dayanand Gosai pretended to be a lost son to take advantage of and appropriate the wealth of a rich family.

Thanks to that, the entire property that Dayanand Gosai inherited was also returned to his 5 daughters. Vidya Singh’s husband, Kumar Singh, said: ‘All she told me was that she wished her mother was alive to see that the truth was finally proven.
