Indonesia attended, Vietnamese football missed an appointment with the ‘Open Youth World Cup’

Previously, in 2021, VFF had intended to send Vietnam U21 team to the Toulon Tournament to prepare for the 31st SEA Games. However, because of the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic, the tournament had to be postponed to 2022 and Vietnamese football will not participate in this year’s tournament.

This year’s Toulon Tournament 2022 has 12 participating teams divided into 3 groups. Group A includes France, Saudi Arabia, Argentina and Panama. Four teams compete in Group C including Japan, Algeria, Colombia and the Comoros.

List of 12 teams participating in Toulon Tournament 2022

Notably, in Group B, there is a team from Southeast Asia that is Indonesia. The Indonesia U19 team under coach Shin Tae Yong will face Mexico, Ghana and Venezuela in Group B. Attending the 2022 Toulon Tournament is also part of Indonesia U19’s preparation plan for the 2023 U20 World Cup final, where they is the host country.

Toulon Tournament 2022 will take place from May 29 to June 12. Therefore, immediately after joining U22 Indonesia to attend the 31st SEA Games, coach Shin Tae Yong must immediately prepare with U19 Indonesia to prepare for this tournament. The defending champion of the tournament is U22 Brazil after defeating Japan U22 in the final 2019.
