Although the Maranello brand does not talk much about the “mysterious” model, the company’s teaser image confirms that the car above has a convertible structure and is a sports car. It is very likely that this is the Spider version of the Ferrari 296 GTB – a hybrid supercar launched in June last year. The texture of the rear end shown in the image, compared to the 296 GTB, is almost exactly the same.
Ferrari 296 GTB is the first model of the Italian brand to use a V6 engine from the 1970s to the present. The test convertible version of this model has been publicly available since the middle of last year with a hardtop structure that is quite strange compared to the traditional soft top structure used by the company.
Ferrari’s current lineup of convertibles includes the Portofino, F8 Spider, SF90 and 812 GTS. The Ferrari 296 GTB convertible is likely to use the same GTS suffix as the 812 and the original inspiration was the Dino 246 GTS.
Except for the roof structure, the Ferrari 296 GTB convertible is expected to reuse the entire existing frame of the original. The powertrain combines a 2.9L V6 engine with an electric motor for a total capacity of 819 hp and 100% torque of 740 Nm. Vehicle weight, due to the new structure, can be increased to approximately 1.5 tons (currently 1,470 kg).
