Singapore allows electronic payments at schools

Digital payment infrastructures, such as ‘tap and pay’ kiosks, will be installed in school canteens and bookstores. Students pay by card or smart meter.

Currently, about 40,000 students at approximately 80 primary and secondary schools in Singapore have used smart payment devices at school.

One of the goals of implementing smart payment methods for Singaporean students is for them to learn how to live in the digital age and cultivate prudent spending habits. Students’ parents can also track their children’s spending through the mobile application.
