South Korea’s president-elect completes cabinet

According to Yonhap News Agency, Mr. Yoon has nominated former presidential secretary for agriculture Chung Hwang Keu to work Minister of Agriculture.

Former general secretary of the Korea Employment and Labor Service Lee Jung Sik is nominated as Minister of Labor.

Earlier, on April 13, Mr. Yoon announced 8 positions in the list of cabinet nominations. The President-elect of Korea chooses close advisor Park Jin for the position foreign minister.

Mr. Yoon expressed the expectation that Mr. Park would use his extensive foreign policy experience to help normalize diplomatic efforts “still deadlocked”.

In the first round of announcements on April 10, Mr. Yoon made nominations for the positions of defense minister, finance minister and prime minister.

All 18 nominations for ministerial and prime ministerial positions will be subject to the parliamentary hearing process, but only the prime minister’s position needs to be approved by the National Assembly.

Next, Mr. Yoon is expected to announce the personnel attached to the President’s Office, including titles such as national security adviser and senior secretaries for political and economic affairs.

Below are the nominations for some key positions in the new Korean cabinet:

Prime minister: Mr. Han Duck Soo, former prime minister of Korea

Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Finance: Mr. Choo Kyung Ho, MP of the People’s Power Party (PPP)

Minister of Justice: Mr. Han Dong Hoon, Vice President of Judicial Research and Training Institute

Unification Minister: Mr. Kwon Young Se, former Korean ambassador to China from 2013 to 2015

Chief of Office of the Presidential Palace: Mr. Kim Dae Ki, former senior secretary of the president

Interior Minister: Mr. Lee Sang Min, former deputy chief of the Office of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission

Defense Minister: Mr. Lee Jong Sup, former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS)

Industry Minister: Mr. Lee Chang Yang, professor of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology

Health Minister: Mr. Chung Ho Young, former director of Kyungpook National University Hospital
