The proposal for children to remove masks in the classroom

Up to now, all students from kindergarten to high school in Hanoi have returned to school after a long break for disease prevention.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, in the coming time, the units will continue to propagate to increase the rate of children going to school to 80% higher than the survey rate, absolutely not being subjective, even though the epidemic situation has been established. controlled version.

Schools are ready to pick up children to ensure safety in all aspects, including safety in disease prevention and control, accident and injury prevention, and food hygiene and safety when organizing day-boarding activities. …

Currently, wearing a mask is one of the mandatory Covid-19 prevention measures to ensure safety when students return to school. However, many parents suggest that children remove masks in class, especially in hot weather like today.

Having a 3-year-old child studying at a kindergarten in Nam Tu Liem district (Hanoi), Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha Phuong said: “I myself wear a mask all day and still feel very tired, let alone how old the children are. With preschool age, it is possible for children to take off masks in the classroom because this age is very special, and teachers can’t stick around to remind them to wear masks.

Moreover, preschool children eat breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner in class, have 4-5 meals but just take off the mask and then put it on, it’s not effective.

Looking through the camera of the class, I saw that even though they asked to wear a mask, up to 50% of the children left the mask.

I think now that the epidemic is under control, we should also be more flexible in the prevention of the Covid-19 epidemic, allowing children to remove masks in class.”

In fact, many older children in elementary, middle and high schools, even wearing masks all day, still catch Covid-19 from you. Therefore, many parents support the view that students must go to school to ensure safety against epidemics, but in the current situation, it is not necessary to force children to wear masks all day, on the contrary, causes inconvenience. convenient for both students and teachers.

Teacher Tran Thu Cuc – teacher of the Kindergarten class at Children’s House said: “When teaching must wear a mask, of course teachers also have to speak louder than usual which is also very difficult, but because of the requirements to ensure To ensure the safety of students, it still has to be done”.

According to Ms. Cuc, for children in a large preschool class, 100% of students can wear masks except when eating, but for students in grades 18-24 months old, it is difficult to ask them to wear masks because the first days of arrival. The children in class cried a lot.

Students of Blue Star School are excited to come to school.

Agreeing with the above view, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngan – Principal of Green Star Kindergarten (Hanoi) said that it is really difficult for younger students to wear masks all day.

“For grades 4 and 5, the school still encourages children to wear masks to ensure safety, even when eating, they must divide tables to ensure a reasonable distance according to regulations. I hope the epidemic situation will be resolved soon, so that in the hot weather of May, the children can take off their masks when they are in the classroom for comfort”, Ms. Ngan said.

Regarding this matter, Ms Pham Thi Le Hang – Head of Education and Training Department of Ha Dong district (Hanoi) said: “Of course, students and teachers will be more comfortable when removing masks. Teachers are easy to teach because when wearing masks the volume decreases, they want to convey something. The teacher had to speak louder which made the girls themselves tired.

Meanwhile, children who work all day and have to wear masks are also uncomfortable especially in hot weather. From an educational perspective, everyone wants to not have to wear a mask in class to make teaching and learning go better, but from a medical perspective, from a student safety perspective, I think medical experts need to discuss. and speak out”.

Previously, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dac Phu, former Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health), Senior Advisor of the Center for Emergency Response to Public Health Events in Vietnam shared, for students , the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Training should not be required to wear masks in the classroom.

“For younger classes, it is not advisable to wear a mask in class because it can affect the respiratory tract. In large classes, it depends, when you’re tired, you should take it off, it’s optional, but it’s okay,” said Mr. Phu.
