What future for mini electric cars, priced at more than 200 million in Vietnam?

After bringing 2 Cevo cars to the 2nd International Exhibition on Supporting Industries and Manufacturing Vietnam in December last year, recently, Cammsys Vietnam Company continued to bring 2 mini electric car models. – 2 seats to Vietnam – Korea Typical Product Exhibition in March this year. Electric vehicle manufacturer Cevo does not hide its ambition to popularize this vehicle in Vietnam.

VnEconomy had an exchange with Mr. Kim Soon Yuong, General Director of Cammsys Vietnam Co., Ltd., about the goal of bringing Korean electric cars to conquer the Vietnamese market.

Electric cars in Vietnam are not a new story. But 2-seater electric cars are relatively strange, is this type of vehicle suitable for the needs of Vietnamese customers?

This is an urban car model, very suitable for large, densely populated cities and limited static traffic infrastructure. With a length of 2,430 mm, a width of 1,425 mm and a height of 1,550 mm, the vehicle’s weight is less than 800 kg, this vehicle is as convenient as a motorbike but safer and more economical. With the size that can be said to be the smallest among the mini electric vehicles circulating on the market, Cevo only has a luggage compartment of about 40 liters.

The Cevo has an electric charging port in the same position as the gas tank cap in petrol cars. The car does not need a separate charging station, but uses a civil power source with a full charge time of about 3 hours. The range of Cevo is about 80 km after fully charged. The Cevo is not only a very economical electric vehicle, but also very environmentally friendly. With such advantages, we expect that this vehicle will be popularized in Vietnam.

Vietnamese consumers are always interested in the price of each type of electric vehicle. In fact, imported cars into Vietnam often have high prices, so they are not suitable for most people’s pockets?

Cevo electric car model is a product that has been sold commercially in Korea since 2020. In Korea, Cevo is priced at about 300 million VND. However, those who buy electric cars will be subsidized by our Government, helping to reduce the price of the car to about 150 million VND. Cevo is aimed at ordinary customers, living in urban areas, and want a compact and convenient car, so if sold in Vietnam, we plan to cost from 200 million to 240 million dong. I think this is a very reasonable price.

Currently, two-wheel electric vehicles are still entangled with many legal procedures, so they cannot roll in Vietnam, what are you and your company planning on this issue in the near future?

Yes. In the past time, we have had many meetings with regulatory agencies in Vietnam with the hope that Vietnam will soon come up with specific policies for small electric cars.

Most recently, in a meeting with the leaders of Thanh Hoa province, we also received the promise of the provincial leaders to provide maximum support for businesses because this vehicle is very suitable for the conditions and infrastructure. in Viet Nam. We hope that Thanh Hoa province will propose the Government of Vietnam to allow pilot license of this type of vehicle in Thanh Hoa. This is the premise to bring the product to be licensed for circulation in Vietnam.

Some leading enterprises in Vietnam are also investing heavily in the research, production and commercialization of their electric vehicle products. Is Cammsys apprehensive about this competitor?

As far as I know, this business is researching, producing and introducing to the market 5-seater and 7-seater electric cars. In general, the usability features are not much different from conventional gasoline-powered cars. Our Cevo product is a small car, with only 2 seats. Therefore, it can be affirmed that direct competition is only contributing to the diversity and richness of the electric vehicle market in Vietnam.

Thank you very much!
