3 congressmen injured and suspected of being killed in Kansas shooting, authorities say

Officials said three congressmen were injured and a female suspect was killed in Friday’s shooting in Kansas.

The incident happened in Cowley County, about 50 miles southeast of Wichita, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Cowley County Sheriff Dave Falletti said:

The injured deputies are being treated at Wesley Hospital in Wichita and are in stable condition, Falletti said.

The identities of the female suspect and the injured officers were not immediately released. The suspect was the only person in the car, Falletti said.

Nikki Miles, the agency’s dispatcher, said the highway patrol received an “officer support call” shortly before 12:30 p.m. local time. She said the injured deputies were at the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the injured delegates was taken to the hospital, while two others were transported by ambulance, Miles said.

She had no idea what happened before the shooting. Miles says there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Residents are asked to avoid the area. Highway Patrol was on the scene, according to NBC affiliate KSN in Wichita.
