Musk affirms purpose buy Twitter Its mission is not aimed at the business side of Twitter, but to ensure Twitter is a trusted platform for democracy. “This is not about making money,” he told TED Leader Chris Anderson in an interview yesterday, “My motivation is to maintain a trusted and inclusive public platform – which extremely important to the future of civilization.”

“The source code should be on Github so people can look at it and say ‘I see a problem here’ or ‘I disagree with this’. They can find the problem and suggest changes,” Musk said.

When asked how he would change Twitter’s content management, Musk explained how he tested a platform for free speech very simply: “If you allow people you don’t like to say things, if you don’t like it, that’s free speech.”

Musk suggested that if a tweet is particularly controversial, the company may not be able to promote it. However, “I think we need to be deliberate when deleting things and be cautious of permanent bans. A temporary ban is better,” he said.

Musk also admitted that even if he bought Twitter, the company would still have flaws. “I assume people will still blame me for everything. If I buy Twitter and something doesn’t go right, it’s 100% my fault,” he said.

When asked if he had a backup plan if the Twitter acquisition failed, Musk said he had “a lot of ideas”. However, the billionaire declined to give details.
