From the beginning of 2022 until now, Kon Plong district has experienced dozens of earthquakes with magnitudes from 2.4 to 3.7 degrees. Richterthese earthquakes are of weak and medium type, do not pose a disaster risk.

Previously, in 2021, this area also experienced dozens of earthquakes with magnitudes below 4 on the Richter scale. From June 2021, the Institute of Geophysics has sent staff to this area to set up an additional monitoring station to better understand and promptly warn of dangerous geological phenomena, if any.

Director of the Institute of Geophysics (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) Nguyen Xuan Anh said that Kon Tum province in general and Kon Plong district in particular belong to the small fault zone. Previous studies have shown that earthquakes in this area have a magnitude of no more than 5 on the Richter scale. This earthquake has a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale, causing no disaster risk.

The Institute also regularly reports earthquake activity to the authorities and people in this area. In order to have accurate conclusions, the time to monitor earthquake activity must be large enough, staff of the institute continue to monitor and process earthquake data in Kon Plong district.

Director Nguyen Xuan Anh advised people and authorities in this area to pay attention to seismic resistance factors in construction; authorities at all levels should regularly propagate and guide people on measures to prevent, avoid and minimize damage when strong earthquakes occur.

Especially, when an earthquake occurs, the authorities and people in the affected area should strictly follow the provisions of the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 78/2007/QD-TTg dated May 29, 2007 Government on promulgating the Regulation on prevention and control of earthquakes and tsunamis.

Accordingly, upon receiving news of earthquake and tsunami warning, all citizens in the affected area must actively evacuate the dangerous area to ensure safety; People’s Committees at all levels must by all means notify the above information to people in the area; organize the evacuation of people and mobilize vehicles in the area to help people evacuate to a safe place, and at the same time take measures to ensure security and order in the area.

Immediately after an earthquake or tsunami occurs, authorities at all levels must mobilize all on-site resources as prescribed to rescue victims, give first aid to injured people, search for missing people, and at the same time synthesize information. and make urgent reports to competent authorities to direct necessary measures to limit damage caused by earthquakes and tsunamis.
