Racing to celebrate birthday, 12 people were sentenced

Tien GiangVo Hoang Khang, 20 years old, and his accomplice were tried for illegal racing to celebrate his birthday, causing chaos in the residential area.

On the afternoon of April 15, Khanh; Nguyen Thanh Hien, 19 years old, was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison by the People’s Court of Cai Lay town Organize illegal racing. 6 other defendants received from 3 years 6 months to 4 years and 9 months in prison for the same crime.

The remaining four youths were sentenced to 2 years to 2 years and 6 months in prison for the crime Disturbing public order.

Previously, the defendants expressed regret about their actions and asked the jury to reduce their sentences.

According to the indictment, Khang and Hien raced with friends many times. In April 2021, he wanted to organize a car race to celebrate his birthday, so he invited Hien to participate.

At dawn on April 11, 2021, Khang, Hien and a group of “monster drivers” gathered on National Highway 1 in Cai Lay town, swerving around, darting their lives away. Being stopped by the police, the young men fled into alleys and orchards, some rushed straight into the canal to escape.

90 teenagers were brought to the headquarters by the police with 110 motorbikes, many of which had changed structures.

Khanh, Hien and a number of young people were prosecuted for their leading and organizing roles; The rest are assigned to family management and education.
