Russia claims to destroy Ukrainian helicopters with S-400

The Mil Mi-8 helicopter was hit near the town of Gorodnya in the Chernigov Region of Ukraine – RT quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying at a press conference on the morning of April 15. This town is located about 30 km from the Russian border.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Mil Mi-8 helicopters were used in the April 14 attack on the village of Klimovo in Russia’s Bryansk Region.

The National Investigative Committee provided an update on the attack, treating it as a criminal conspiracy. The statement of the investigative committee indicated that two Ukrainian military attack helicopters entered Russian airspace around noon local time, flying at low altitude.

The plane fired heavy weapons at the village, fired at least 6 rockets at residential buildings, injured 7 people and damaged 6 houses in the attack.

Earlier, health officials said a 2-year-old boy and his mother, who is pregnant, were among the seven victims of the attack. Two people are believed to be in serious condition.

In a separate incident in the border area on April 14 that Russian officials blamed on Ukrainian forces was shelling on the border about 40 kilometers southwest of Klimovo.

Russian border guards said a group of about 30 refugees from Ukraine were hit by mortar fire while passing through the checkpoint. No one was injured in the attack, but two civilian cars were damaged.

On April 1, Ukraine carried out a similar airstrike against an oil depot in the Russian city of Belgorod. Investigators reported that two helicopters fired at least four missiles, causing significant damage on the ground.

The Russian Defense Ministry said it had carried out a cruise missile strike on a military target in the Ukrainian capital and would carry out more attacks in response.

Russian warplanes hit seven targets in Ukraine overnight. One of these targets was described as a unit of “mercenaries from a private Polish military company” in the Kharkov region. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, up to 30 Polish mercenaries were killed.

Russian Defense Ministry warns of possible escalation of military operations in Ukraine if the country’s military conducts more attacks on targets in Russia. “Decision-making centers” in Kiev could be targeted, the statement said.
