The boy fell from the 18th floor to the ground and the “miracle” ending

The 4-year-old boy is said to have gotten naughty and climbed onto the sofa by the window, before losing his balance and falling to the ground from a height of 54.8 metres.

“The boy was seriously injured but his condition is now stable after successful emergency surgery,” Tuong Duong No. 1 People’s Hospital – where the boy was hospitalized – announced.

The boy lived with his grandmother while his father and mother worked in another city. When the grandmother went out to buy groceries and didn’t keep an eye on her grandchild, the boy climbed into a chair and tumbled toward the window.

The boy’s father (who remained anonymous) said that he and his wife received a phone call from their mother and immediately rushed to the hospital.

“My mother-in-law was shocked when she saw me lying on the ground. Fortunately, passersby who witnessed the incident called an ambulance in time. My wife and I rushed home in the night to visit our son,” the father said.

According to Tuong Duong No. 1 People’s Hospital, the boy had severe bleeding and severe multiple injuries when he was taken to the hospital.

“Clinical examination showed that the boy had facial fractures, contusion of lung, liver, spleen, broken femur and many other injuries,” the hospital representative said.

“It is a miracle that the baby was able to survive the surgery when he fell from a height of 54.8 meters to the ground. We have never encountered a similar case before,” said doctor Chen Xi of Xiangyang No. 1 People’s Hospital.

According to Dr Chen, the boy may have fallen into the canopy of a tree planted next to the building before falling to the ground. This reduces the force of the impact and prevents the victim from being too seriously injured.

After surgery, the boy’s condition improved and was transferred to the intensive care unit.

“The baby boy will receive further follow-up treatment, before he can be discharged,” said Dr. Chen.
