Reuters news agency quoted William Holbrook, Columbia police chief, as saying the shooting happened at the Columbiana shopping center at about 2pm on April 16 (local time).
The police do not consider this shooting as random violence but stemming from conflicts between armed groups who know each other.
However, details surrounding the shooting are sketchy. Local media reported that police and emergency personnel were crowding the scene.
No one was killed in the incident, but 10 people were hit by bullets. Eight of them were taken to area hospitals. Two people are in critical condition.
