5 people receive $50,000 reward for helping police catch the shooter

“We appreciate everyone who responded to this call for information to locate this suspect, including those whose information did not help us locate the suspect.” Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said.

“We’ve called on the public to join us in our efforts to find this suspect, and New Yorkers have stepped in,” Commissioner Sewell added.

According to Reuters news agency, suspect Frank James is accused of carrying out one of the most violent attacks on New York City’s public transit system.

Police arrested this man in Manhattan, New York on April 13 (US time) after 30 hours of searching and receiving much support information from the public.

In addition, the suspect James himself also called the police to report his location.

Accordingly, James told police that he was in a McDonald’s restaurant in Manhattan. When police arrived, suspect James had left the restaurant but was later arrested near the place.

The shooting and smoke bombs occurred at a subway station in Brooklyn on April 12. The gunman fired a total of 33 shots and hit 10 people. In addition, more than 20 people were injured from smoke inhalation and other reasons while fleeing the scene.

The New York Police Department said its investigators used information provided by the public to create a timeline of events in the shooting. This helped them locate James.

Among those who provided assistance, New York police selected five people who had “directly contributed information” that led to the arrest of suspect James.

Police did not provide the identities of the five people who shared the $50,000 reward.
