A Hanoi boy born in 2000 sends his love for the Hau Dong culture into music

Album “Ngoc” is an art project inspired by folk materials and traditional culture of young male singer Bui Tuan Ngoc himself. The MV “Lord Mother Mary” is the first song released in the third lunar month – the month of Marian Supper – which is worshiped in the Mother Worship Belief.

Sharing the inspiration for composing this song, Ngoc remembers back-to-school sessions with friends for a few laps of West Lake. Incidentally, the student born in 2000 was curious and attracted by the crowds of people going to the ceremony in Phu Tay Ho, and so “life pushed” him along with the crowd into the Palace. In a spacious and fragrant space, the scent of agarwood smoke radiates under the shade of a sesame tree dotted with clusters of red flowers, echoing the voice of Chu Van coming from Phu, Ngoc as if frozen.

Looking at people entering the ceremony, the young man recalled the days when he followed his mother and grandmother to the Temple and Temple to attend the ceremony. And in her twenties, Ngoc learned and read about the story of Phu Tay Ho – about the Holy Mother Lieu Hanh. The young man suddenly understood: The “big” statues in childhood turned out to have stories associated with the history of the Vietnamese nation. That fate made Ngoc search for many documents on the Hanoi Library or books or information shared by friends…

The deeper he delved, the more the young singer realized that there were many images that had actually followed him since he was a child. Like Chu Van language like a mother’s lullaby, or the sound of drums and beats like the knowledge he learned in school, or the lyrics that have “very poetic” features that give him deeper feelings about life. , about the scenic spots of Vietnam and about the saints worshiped in the Mother Worship Belief.

Ngoc herself is always impressed with Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh’s words in the book “Rose with a lapel”: “Religious symbols are easy to create new excitement”. Therefore, while composing “My Mother Anh Linh”, Ngoc asked for the help of Master Huyen Tich – a shaman, co-teacher of the Temple of Mother Thuong Ngan and Co Thuong to complete his work. me.

Along with love and admiration for traditional culture, Ngoc and her team decided to theatricalize and simulate a cultural beauty of Vietnam – Hau Dong. The inspiration to build the MV script was from a poem called “Do Len” by Poet Nguyen Duy in the Grade 12 Literature textbook.

The poem tells about the poor childhood of a boy who followed his grandmother to “Cay Thi Temple” with true memories such as: barefoot watching the Song Temple Ceremony, catching sparrows at the Buddha’s ear, or being ecstatic with the Buddha statue. the smell of white lily mixed with the smoke of incense… Besides, the poem clearly describes the feeling of “naive” of a child when walking between two bad banks – really: between the grandmother and the Buddha, the Holy Spirit; between her belief in the sacred and her miserable life; In the midst of the years of hunger, only the bitter gourd root and the scent of white lily and incense…

Both MVs use very little (almost none) of modern techniques in the editing so that everyone can focus their attention on the story integrated into the product. Through this product, the team wants to create excitement for the future young generation to learn more deeply about Vietnam’s national beliefs and culture.
