The 8,400-carat (2.8kg) ruby was once mined in Tanzania. This is the most prominent gemstone in the collection called Callisto by SJ Gold and Diamond Jeweler Asset Management.

SJ Gold and Diamond says the Burj Alhamal is “one of the largest rough rubies” in the world.

Mr. Patrick Pilati – CEO of SJ Gold and Diamond – boasts that this is one of the “rarest rubies ever found”.

He said the gem is in its natural, untreated state and that’s why it’s precious. The ruby will be auctioned off after the Muslim holy month of Ramadan ends on May 1.

According to AFP news agency, experts believe that this rough ruby could be paid by buyers for $ 120 million in this auction.

SJ Gold and Diamond CEO Patrick Pilati said: “The introduction of the Callisto collection in Dubai marks the company’s breakthrough in its journey to becoming one of the world’s leading mineral and metal asset managers. The company manages $4 billion in assets, from gold and unique gems.”

The Callisto collection also includes white and yellow diamonds cut or raw, along with 12 unique rubies.

Late last month, a giant diamond called “The Rock” was also exhibited for the first time in Dubai.

It is a pear-shaped diamond weighing 228.31 carats, mined and polished in South Africa more than 20 years ago. It is the largest white diamond ever sold at auction, according to auction house Christie’s.

The diamond is expected to fetch more than $30 million.
