Apple is testing 9 Macs with M2 . chip

According to Bloomberg, Apple has begun internal testing of several new Macs with the M2 chip, which is said to be manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm process. A total of “at least” 9 versions are being tested with 4 different M2 chips, including the standard M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max, and the successor to the M1 Ultra (it’s unclear if it’s called M2 Ultra or not. are not).

Some of the devices revealed by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman include:

  • MacBook Air with M2 chip has 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU
  • Mac mini with M2 chip and a variant with M2 Pro chip
  • 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 . chip
  • 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. The M2 Max chip has a 12-core CPU and a 38-core GPU, along with 64GB of RAM.
  • Mac Pro is equipped with a successor to the M1 Ultra

Apple also tested the M1 Max version of the Mac mini, but the release of Mac Studio could make such a machine redundant, so Apple will use the M2 and M2 Pro on the new Mac mini.

Bloomberg says that internal testing is a “critical step” in the development process and it suggests the machine could launch in the coming months. Previous rumors have said that the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini will launch in 2022, and Bloomberg has previously revealed at least two Macs will launch in the middle of the year, presumably at WWDC.
