Newspaper South China Morning Post Citing the Hong Kong government’s Flight Services Authority, it was confirmed that there was a report from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center about the explosion about 300km from this special zone at 4pm on April 16, local time.

The Hong Kong government immediately sent 2 helicopters and 1 plane, each carrying a doctor, to the rescue.

The ship in trouble is Chuang Yi, registered in Panama, 110m long, with a tonnage of 9,995 tons.

The fire on board is now under control and the ship has been cut off power. The incident resulted in the death of one sailor. Three Indonesians on board were seriously injured, one of them with second-degree burns. Two other Indonesian sailors and a Burmese were slightly injured.

Rescue planes arrived at Chuang Yi at 19:00 (local time) and the first group of injured people was transferred directly to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital at about 20:45. The other group was transferred to the Wan Chai area, and then taken by ambulance to the hospital.
