Mr. Luong Ngoc An resigned from the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Van Nghe newspaper

This morning (April 16), the Executive Board of the Vietnam Writers Association has just announced the 4th regular meeting of the X term taking place on April 15.

Accordingly, this meeting is chaired by Chairman Nguyen Quang Thieu, with the full participation of Executive Committee members: Tran Dang Khoa, Nguyen Binh Phuong, Khuat Quang Thuy, Tran Hung, Nguyen Thi Thu Hue, Bich Ngan, Phan Hoang, Huu Viet, Luong Ngoc An, Vu Hong.

Attending the meeting were representatives of some central agencies and poet Huu Thinh – Advisor to the Executive Board of the Vietnam Writers Association.

At the meeting, the Executive Board announced the decision to mobilize poet Luong Ngoc An to resign from the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Secretary of the Van Nghe Newspaper to take on new tasks from May 1, 2022. This is a decision according to Resolution No. 05-NDĐD dated April 14, 2022 of the Party Union of the Vietnam Writers Association. The document was signed by the President of the Vietnam Writers Association Nguyen Quang Thieu.

Mr. Luong Ngoc An was born in 1965 in Hanoi. After graduating from university, he worked as a journalist, wrote poetry, worked for more than 30 years at Van Nghe newspaper. Recently, he was bullied by poet Da Thao Phuong – a former colleague of his at the newspaper Young Arts denounced his abuse and rape many times between 1999 and 2000. Mr. Luong Ngoc An later said that he had sent relevant documents to the police authorities for intervention. The case is still controversial in public opinion. The Writers Guild has not yet made an official announcement about this incident.

Meanwhile, Da Thao Phuong was born in 1974, she was once considered a promising female poet with a strange voice in the late 90s of the twentieth century.

On April 13, writer Bui Mai Hanh, currently living in Australia, also posted an article on his personal Facebook page accusing Mr. Luong Ngoc An of sexually assaulting her 25 years ago. According to her share, Mr. An broke into a private room and acted abusively, however, for some reason, the rape was not performed.

PV Vietnamese people also called the Chairman of the Writers Association Nguyen Quang Thieu to discuss the mobilization of Mr. Luong Ngoc An, but Mr. Thieu is currently off the phone.
