Preliminary investigation results of Ferrero’s chocolate case contaminated with Salmonella

European health authorities are coordinating an investigation into the case of chocolate products of Ferrero Group (Italy). Salmonella infectionaffecting the health of at least 150 children on the continent.

Experts from the European Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the European Food Safety Authority said they compared the newly detected Salmonella contaminated products with samples of similar products. from the factory mentioned above in December 2021.

The results show that the processing of skimmed milk has been identified as the key to contaminating two types of products egg chocolate and Kinder chocolate praline by Ferrero Corporation.

Ferrero has recalled chocolate eggs and similar products in many countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the US… when it admitted that some products made in Belgium were contaminated.

Currently, Ferrero has closed its factory in Arlon. However, European officials still note that the chocolate company’s products were exported globally before the scandal was discovered.

As of this week, there have been 150 cases of Salmonella infection after eating Chocolate Kinder recorded in 10 European countries, of which the first case was identified in the UK in December 2021.

According to European authorities, the majority of infections are in children under the age of 10, and “a significant number of pediatric patients” have been hospitalized for treatment. The European CDC says the outbreak is continuing to spread, with children most at risk.

The agency also noted that further investigations are needed to pinpoint the exact source of the contamination, as well as assess the risk of a similar situation occurring at other processing plants.

Salmonella often causes symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Most people with bacterial infections don’t need medication, but severe cases require hospitalization, which may require antibiotics or other treatments.
