Relocating Mr. Luong Ngoc An to resign from the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief

The Party Committee of the Vietnam Writers’ Association and the Executive Board decided to mobilize poet Luong Ngoc An to resign from the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Secretary of the editorial office of Van Nghe Newspaper from May 1.

At 10:20 am on April 16, the website of the Vietnam Writers Association (https://vanvn.vn) updated the notice of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Writers Association about the 4th session of the X term.

According to the announcement, on April 15, in Hanoi, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association, term X, held the 4th meeting chaired by Chairman Nguyen Quang Thieu, with the full participation of the members. Executive Committee: Tran Dang Khoa, Nguyen Binh Phuong, Khuat Quang Thuy, Tran Hung, Nguyen Thi Thu Hue, Bich Ngan, Phan Hoang, Huu Viet, Luong Ngoc An, Vu Hong.

Attending the meeting were representatives of a number of central agencies and poet Huu Thinh – Advisor to the Executive Committee, writer Nguyen Hong Thai – Member of the Association’s Inspection Committee and leaders of the Association’s Office departments.

According to the announcement, the meeting had two main contents: activities of the Writers’ Union and Human Resources work.

In the new situation of the Vietnam Writers Association, according to Resolution No. 05-NDĐD dated April 14, 2022 of the Party Union of the Vietnam Writers Association, the Executive Board decided to mobilize poet Luong Ngoc An to resign from his post. Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Secretary of the editorial office of Van Nghe Newspaper to take on new tasks from May 1, 2022.

The notice did not specify the reason for the job transfer for Mr Luong Ngoc An.

Recently, on the evening of April 6, poet Da Thao Phuong (Phan Thi Thanh Thuy) sent an open letter to the Writers’ Association, Van Nghe Newspaper accusing Mr. Luong Ngoc An of raping her many years ago.

A few days later, a second person appeared to denounce Mr. An, that was the writer Bui Mai Hanh, who accused him of being sexually assaulted by Mr. Luong Ngoc An.

On April 10, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association sent a letter to Da Thao Phuong.

The letter from the Executive Committee of the Writers’ Association also states: “After carefully studying the content and nature of her open letter, listening to a direct report from the leaders of Van Nghe Newspaper and talking with Mr. Luong Ngoc An about the related case previously handled according to the dossier. Briefly, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association would like to answer as follows:

1. The case she presented happened in 2000 and was resolved by the Van Nghe Newspaper based on on-site evidence, within the administrative jurisdiction of the agency. At that time, the involved parties (Mrs. and Mr. Luong Ngoc An) did not have a letter to the relevant agencies to handle in accordance with the law. Thus, the case was administratively resolved within the newspaper Van Nghe.

2. Up to now, after 22 years, she has sent an open letter to a large number of stakeholders, including the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers’ Association, presenting the incident with the aim of ‘This truth will be heard and answered with words of wisdom. practical action…’. The Executive Board of the Vietnam Writers Association sincerely listened and shared with her.

However, from the legal perspective, the Executive Board of the Writers’ Association found that there was no satisfactory basis as well as the authority to administratively handle the incident that occurred in 2000 at Van Nghe Newspaper. In order to clarify the case when 22 years has passed, she should send an application or letter to the competent legal authorities to be carried out in accordance with the legal order.

The Executive Board of the Vietnam Writers’ Association is ready to cooperate closely and have the highest responsibility with legal authorities in case of request to protect the honor, reputation and legitimate interests of those involved. mandarin”.

Also related to the incident, on the afternoon of April 14, confirmed to the press, Mr. Luong Ngoc An said that he had reported the incident related to Ms. Da Thao Phuong to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association.

“I filed a complaint with the police because I found myself being slandered by Mrs. Da Thao Phuong.” Mr. Luong Ngoc An said.
