Moscow is the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea fleet. Ukraine claims it hit Moscow with a Neptune cruise missile. This missile, developed by the Ukrainians and put into use in August 2020, has a range of about 300km and can carry a 150kg warhead.

Meanwhile, the Russian military said the ship was badly damaged by an exploding ammunition depot and did not mention that the ship was attacked by Ukraine.

The Russian military has not yet released information about casualties on the Moskva ship, which sank on April 14 in the Black Sea. The cruiser Moskva was launched in 1979 from a shipyard in Ukraine, then a republic of the Soviet Union.

The Kremlin previously reported that the ship was carrying nearly 500 people and that all had been evacuated before it sank.

However, the Russian military did not release any photos of the operation to evacuate the sailors.
