The journey of two transgender sisters to find themselves

Hai PhongWhile struggling to live in a man’s body to please everyone, Kim discovers that her sister is actually a boy in a female form.

Le Kim Tung and Yen Nhi are the two children of Mrs. Tran Thi Tham, 52 years old in Hai Phong city. Mrs. Tham used to think she had a normal family with two boring children.

But when her son was three years old, she and her husband discovered that Tung only likes to wear pink dresses and tops. When playing with toys, the boy always volunteered to play the role of mother. Meanwhile, Yen Nhi’s daughter kept crying when she saw she was about to wear a skirt. Thinking their children are stubborn, Mrs. Tham and her husband repeatedly used whips to force their children to do as they wished.

The father forces his son to speak loudly and boldly, and his daughter must wear a skirt and grow her hair long. “If I did it differently, my father would take the whip all the time,” Tung recalled. Unable to explain his difference, Tung tried to live like a guy, wearing spikes, wearing sneakers, or gathering to fight.

However, the female quality in Tung cannot be hidden. Ha Dung, Tung’s childhood friend, said: “After such aggressive moments, he talked more softly than other girls in the class, easily moved.” Tung often shares with his close friends his dream of singing and becoming an actor to play female generals.

The children at the same school often tease Tung as a “bastard”. “I’m so sensitive that people just look at me and think they’re going to make fun of me. If anyone openly teases me, I’ll run to beat them, call me ‘bro’ to prove I’m a man. “, Tung recalled.

After the fights, Tung often came home to cry alone and didn’t understand why he was like that. For a long time, Tung collaborated with Hai Phong Radio and Television Station with the role of a boy in short films. However, Tung was afraid of seeing his son’s figure, so he did not dare to watch the movie again. It was not until she reached out to the transgender female community through the Internet that Tung understood her difference.

Having not yet “found myself”, Tung was shocked to know another truth when he discovered that his sister Yen Nhi read stories about women who love each other. “I couldn’t sit still, holding my face and crying as a monk. I took this shape and it was a tragedy, I didn’t expect you to be like me,” the old brother said.

Tung wrote a letter, stuffed it in his bag to ask, but by the hunch of a girl and people in the world, Tung knew that her answer was a lie.

To cover her family’s eyes, Yen Nhi often wears girls’ sandals to school and then replaces them with self-made sandals. She wears a bra (the kind of bra for teenage girls) that her mother bought her, but before going to class, she goes to the bathroom to change into a T-shirt. In the summer, Nhi still wears two shirts to hide her teenage breasts.

Meanwhile, Tung began to show his gender identity. At the age of 20, he was invited by a transgender girl group in Hai Phong to perform. The first time wearing clogs and wearing ao dai, Tung was not shy at all. “After the performance, I took a set of pictures as a souvenir because I was so happy,” he said. Tung has the opportunity to wear makeup, long hair, and clogs more and more without being teased by anyone when he becomes a medium.

Once, the brother heard that Yen Nhi was being bullied at school, and immediately rushed to protect. On the way back, Tung asked: “Do you like girls?”. The younger brother did not answer but asked: “So do you love boys?”. There was no answer, but they both laughed.

“I knew I wasn’t alone,” Nhi recalls. After that time, Tung took me to cut the long hair that my mother was very proud of. At that time, the parents broke up, the two children chose to live with their father. When her hair cut back, her father threatened to beat her, Nhi was no longer afraid because she knew Tung would protect her.

Tung changed his name to Kim, openly being a girl. Yen Nhi also turned into Binh Nhi, living like a guy. Witnessing the daily changes of the children, the father gradually accepted. But not the mother.

In 2019, Kim hid her parents from having breast surgery. Coming home on the day of her death anniversary, she appeared covered in bandages. Relatives and relatives were not too surprised, but her mother texted: “How can I look up at everyone?”.

“My body is in pain until it’s hard to breathe, but reading mom’s text is even more painful,” Kim said, but said her choice was not wrong.

Kim participates in the transgender community, inspires people to live positive lives, and promotes healthy homosexuality. The events attended, the knowledge about transgender people learned, Kim shared on social networks, tagging her mother’s name in the comments. There are articles and shares of the LGBT community, which she immediately sends to her mother. Just like that, Mrs. Tham gradually understood that her children were living with their real selves.

When her mother opened up more, Kim invited her and her brother to an event about LGBT. In that event, Mrs. Tham was invited to the stage. Standing on the podium, the woman burst into tears: “I’m really sad to hear that both of my children are transgender. They can’t give me grandchildren. But now that I understand better, I accept this fact. , as long as you are happy, be yourself”.

At this event, Kim introduced her younger brother Binh Nhi to a friend who is also a female-to-male transition. After being consulted, Binh Nhi went to the gym to develop muscles and prepared for breast reduction surgery. “Thanks to that meeting, I have more confidence in myself and have goals to change,” Binh Nhi said.

Currently, in addition to community activities, Kim and Binh Nhi both have their own jobs. Binh Nhi moved out to live on her own to be independent and assert herself. Not only living happily, bringing income for themselves, the Kim sisters also help their parents.

“To compensate for the pain that our parents suffered, we always try to live happily and happily. Sometimes when faced with ups and downs, my sisters and I do not dare to confide in them, for fear of our parents. bothered,” said Kim, now a girly girl.
