Korea University said on April 7 that it had canceled the 2010 admission of Cho Min, the daughter of former Justice Minister Cho Kuk, after discovering fraud in her university application.
Two days earlier, Pusan National University in Busan also revoked its decision to admit Cho Min to medical school in 2015 for using an internship certificate and forged documents.
According to Pusan National University, the school rules that applicants will not be accepted if they are found to have falsified documents and admission can be canceled, even decades after graduation.
Min graduated from Korea University’s Department of Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering, then went on to study medicine at Pusan National University. She passed her doctor’s license exam last January and is practicing at a public hospital. However, before the above scandal, the Ministry of Health and Welfare is expected to take steps to revoke Min’s license.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Cho Kuk filed an injunction against the university’s decision. “It would be too harsh a punishment to revoke Min’s admission status and consequently revoke Min’s license to practice,” Cho said.
These are the latest decisions related to the college admissions fraud scandal that caused Cho Min’s father – former Justice Minister Cho Kuk – to resign in 2019 after 35 days of taking office.

Cho Min’s cancellation of admission from both university campuses this week comes after the Supreme Court upheld the sentence of her mother, Chung Kyung-sim, in January for academic fraud, including academic fraud. including forging documents for a daughter, among other crimes.
Mr. Cho, 54, is a professor at Seoul National University, a human rights activist and a South Korean politician. He was appointed by President Moon Jae-in as a candidate for Justice Minister in August 2019. In September of the same year, he was accused of taking advantage of his relationships to get his daughter into one of the prestigious private schools in Korea.
Mr. Cho was appointed Minister of Justice on September 9, 2019. Immediately after he took office, a series of mass protests against the president on a scale not seen since 2017 reduced Moon’s approval rating.

Half a month later, the Seoul Central Prosecutor’s Office sent an investigator to search Minister Cho’s house. This is the first time that a serving justice minister of South Korea has had his home searched. Cho was forced to resign on October 14, 2019 because he did not want to influence the president and the government through personal scandals.
Mr. and Mrs. Cho are accused of falsifying related documents in order for their children to be admitted to prestigious schools. Cho’s family is said to have “beautified” their daughter’s work experience profile with internships and mock research projects at Seoul National University and elsewhere.
Ms. Chung Kyung-sim, Mr. Cho’s wife, was prosecuted in September 2019 and sentenced to four years in prison in the first trial in December 2020 but later appealed the sentence.
