Transgender contestant entered the Top 71 of Miss Universe Vietnam

At the press conference on the evening of April 16 in Ho Chi Minh City, Do Nhat Ha was announced as the only transgender contestant to receive a ticket to continue after the casting round. With this result, the list of reality TV round contestants is 71, instead of 70 as previously announced. This is the first time in the history of the contest that there is such an exception.

Do Nhat Ha said: “I appreciate the opportunity given to me by the organizers. Standing on the contest stage is my dream and my desire. When I held the special ticket in my hand, I cried. I will try my best. I do my best to express myself and spread the voice of the LGBT community.”

Mr. Tran Viet Bao Hoang – Permanent Vice President of Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 – said that Do Nhat Ha is transgender, but technically still has male gender. Competition rules both domestically and internationally have not yet accepted this case. She was allowed to proceed as a guest of honor, not a contestant.

Do Nhat Ha will not compete in the Top 10, Top 5 or Miss, runner-up. However, she has a chance to enter the Top 41 if she wins the reality TV show. Contestants can also enter the Top 16 through audience vote. If Nhat Ha wins this category, the second person will still be selected. Mr. Bao Hoang affirmed that Do Nhat Ha’s presence in the contest did not take away any candidate’s opportunities.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Nhat – head of the organizing committee of the contest – said: “We give opportunities to transgender candidates because we want them to express themselves on stage and convey the voice of their community to everyone.”

Ms. Vo Thi Xuan Trang – head of the jury – acknowledged Do Nhat Ha’s efforts and daring to live true to herself. Before that, in a closed interview, she and the judges said goodbye to her because they could not break the rules. After learning that the organizers gave this contestant special privileges, they burst into tears.

Nhat Ha is 23 years old this year, birth name is Do Nhat Tan, a student at Hoa Sen University (HCMC). She is 1.75 m tall, measuring three rounds of 87-63-93 cm, respectively. At the age of 20, Nhat Tan grew her hair long, injected female hormones and went to Thailand to undergo sex change surgery. She is attractive with her feminine appearance, good at English and Korean. In 2018, she cwin contest “The Tiffany Vietnam 2018”, became a Vietnamese contestant at Miss International Transgender 2019, entered the top 6 finalists.

This year’s Miss Universe Vietnam has the theme “Vinawoman – Vietnamese bravery”, held from February 22 to June 17, the finale taking place in Ho Chi Minh City.
