“Five children and a woman were killed, while a man was injured in the Pakistani rocket fire on the province’s Shelton district,” said Kunar provincial official Najibullah Hassan Abdaal. A witness said the attack was carried out by a Pakistani military plane.

In addition, another Afghan official said that Pakistan also carried out a similar attack on the same day on the country’s Khost province. Pakistani helicopters bombed four villages near the border between the two countries.

Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in August 2021, border tensions between the two neighbors have escalated. Pakistan accuses militant groups of carrying out the attacks from Afghan soil. The Taliban denies tolerating jihadists and strongly opposes Islamabad’s erection of a fence along the 2,700-kilometer-long border between the two countries.
