Live hog prices increased simultaneously, approaching the mark of 60,000 VND/kg

On April 17, as noted by Tien Phong, after a series of continuous increases from the beginning of the week, live hog prices in the North went flat, ranging from 53,000 to 56,000 dong. In which, Vinh Phuc recorded the highest price in the region at 56,000 VND/kg. The remaining provinces are maintaining the purchase price around the average level of 54,000 VND/kg.

In the Central – Central Highlands, the price of pigs for slaughter continued to increase slightly in some places, bringing the general price of the whole region to fluctuate between 54,000 – 58,000 VND/kg.

In the South, high prices from 57,000 to 58,000 VND appear quite common in many provinces in the Mekong Delta, bringing the overall price of the region to about 54,000 to 58,000 VND/kg. This is the area with the highest increase in recent days.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Breeding Association, said live hog prices have shown signs of increasing in provinces and cities due to reduced supply and increasing consumption.

Particularly in the livestock capital of Dong Nai, due to the impact of the epidemic, the price of animal feed increased by more than 70% over the past year, making many livestock farmers not interested in re-herding, affecting the supply.

However, according to Mr. Doan, this supply shortage only happens in the short term. It is forecasted that the price of live hog may increase to 60,000 VND/kg before stopping.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), in the first two months of the year, Vietnam’s pork imports decreased by more than 20% over the same period, reaching more than 23,900 tons. This is a significant decrease after two consecutive years of strong increase.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first quarter of the year, the country’s pig herd was estimated to increase by 4.2%, with live pork production of about 1,041.6 thousand tons, up 4.3%. Due to the abundant supply of pork this year and the decrease in imports, it is expected that domestic live hog prices will continue to increase in the near future.
