Lost in the garden with 1-0-2, overwhelmed by the mutant trees costing hundreds of millions

(Fatherland) – Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam (30 years old, Vung Tau) has a special hobby with unique tropical ornamental plants. He owns mutant trees that cost up to hundreds of millions of dong.

Nestled in a salon, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam’s “tropical bonsai garden” (30 years old, Vung Tau) has countless different ornamental plants. As revealed, there are trees worth hundreds of millions of dong.

In particular, Mr. Nam also shared that he applied the “counting leaves to pay money” rule for the purchase and sale of the potted plants here. Non-specialists will see that every leaf is the same as another, but just observing the depth of the leaf cut, if there is a change, the value of that leaf has increased many times.

Passion from a Singapore trip

According to Mr. Nam, he opened a barber shop in 2011. At first, he just decorated his workplace like any other normal shop in the city.

Until 2018, during a trip to Singapore, he saw a country covered in green by countless different species of plants and thanks to that, the air was fresh and unusually cool. Mr. Nam began to think about using bonsai to decorate the barbershop he owned.

Returning to the country after the trip, Mr. Nam began to learn about different types of ornamental plants and participate in groups to exchange and share knowledge of tree care on Facebook. Following everyone’s instructions, Mr. Nam bought potted plants from outside to stay in the work area and fertilize them every day.

The idea for Mr. Nam to use lush potted plants to decorate his workspace came from a trip to Singapore.

However, because he did not have much experience in planting seedlings, Mr. Nam killed many trees and the amount of damage each time reached tens of millions of dong.

Drawing on his “bloody” experience, Mr. Nam equips more tools to support his own tree planting work. The owner of 8X shared, the “key” to successfully nurture a seedling is light, the temperature is always maintained at a cool range of 20-25 degrees Celsius.

At his barbershop, Mr. Nam has equipped a modern electric light rig to provide light for his “pets”. This lamp rig will be lit for 10 hours a day and the environment where he grows bonsai will have air conditioning operating 24/24.

Bonsai can live long or not and grow well or not depends much on light factors.

The “mutant” tree costs hundreds of millions of dong

Currently, Mr. Nam is collecting and owning more than 30 different varieties of mutated ornamental plants such as Monstera, Epipremnum Pinnatum (Vietnamese often call betel nut with sawed leaves),…

In particular, the pricing of these ornamental plants is also very interesting. Sharing with PV, Mr. Nam said that such high-end ornamental lines will be applied the “counting leaves for payment” rule, and usually for exotic plants or mutant plants, the value will fluctuate. from 30-50 million VND/leaf.

The ornamental leaves of the Epipremnum pinnatum line that Mr. Nam owns and displays at work are worth about 3 million VND/leaf.

Monstera is displayed by Mr. Nam in every nook and cranny at his hair salon.

When asked “Do you have the fact that customers going in and out every day will damage expensive bonsai?”. Mr. Nam confided: “When customers come to the hairdresser, they are only interested because the surrounding green and cool space creates a pleasant feeling, but they do not know that the bonsai here are expensive or anything. They thought this must be just an ordinary tree, so the situation of cutting leaves and breaking branches at my shop never happened.”

The problem of cutting leaves and breaking branches has never appeared at Mr. Nam’s barber shop.

The value of mutant ornamental plants is always at “heavenly” prices, so when he wants to green the whole space in the barbershop, Mr. Nam cannot use all mutant varieties to do it.

Instead, the owner of 8X chose to buy pots of Vietnamese betel nut worth only 30,000 VND/pot to take care of. After only a few weeks, the “borrowed wall of green leaves” was the result that Mr. Nam obtained when bringing this “small but powerful” plant to display.

Besides his main job as a barber, the care and cultivation of rare ornamental plants also gives Nam a stable source of income. Mr. Nam also frankly admitted that if there is a buying direction, there must also be a selling direction, so he himself can recover the capital for “luxury pleasures”.
