Nearly 32,000 students in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are vaccinated against Covid

Ho Chi Minh City organized more than 100 points, injecting nearly 30,000 students in 6th grade, Hanoi with 33 points injected nearly 2,000 students on the first day of vaccination against Covid-19 for children aged 5-11.

From 7:00 a.m. on April 16, about 70 6th grade students of Vo Truong Toan Secondary School and their parents waited at Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School, District 1, to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

Two doctors screen each student. They measure body temperature, heart rate, ask questions about children and parents about allergies and underlying diseases for screening. After the injection, the students sat back and watched for 30 minutes and examined again before leaving.

Sitting in the school’s recreation room to monitor after the injection, Hong Tan Truong said that the whole class had 8 students registered for this injection out of a total of 30. Before the injection, she was instructed by her teacher and mother how to eat. drink, exercise… “At first, I was a little scared, but after the injection, I felt comfortable”, Truong said.

Waiting outside, Mr. Ba Canh, 58, is quite worried but hopes that after receiving the vaccine, his son will be less affected by Covid-19. He said that some of his children’s friends contracted the disease before they had been vaccinated, but even though they recovered quickly, they still suffered from fatigue, cough, and loss of taste for a long time.

According to Dr. Thi Hong Tuoi, District 1 Medical Center, the doctors and medical staff who injected the children were all experienced in previous vaccinations. This morning, this site has vaccinated 43 6th grade students and postponed the injection of 9 children for the reason that they are being treated for sore throat, having contracted Covid-19 less than three months ago.

Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Nguyen Huu Hung said that on the first day, districts and Thu Duc City (HCMC) simultaneously deployed 109 points of Covid-19 vaccination for 6th grade students and gradually lowered the age from 11 -5 in the coming days.

To prepare for the vaccination campaign, the Department of Health has trained more than 7,500 health workers in vaccination. According to Mr. Hung, the effectiveness of vaccination in the near future will be the most practical way of persuading parents who have not yet agreed to vaccinate their children.

In the first batch, more expected 898,500 children 5-11 Aged in Ho Chi Minh City received the Covid-19 vaccine, of which more than 885,700 children went to school and about 12,800 children were in social protection facilities and children did not go to school. The injection will be completed by September.

April 16 afternoon, Hanoi City started to organize vaccination for 12-year-old children in 4 districts, namely Ha Dong, Phu Xuyen, Soc Son and Dong Anh. At the first session, 4 localities organized 33 points to inject 1,830 children.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Binh, Head of the Health Department of Ha Dong District, said that the district has over 54,000 children from 5 to under 12 years old. However, through the survey, about 54% of children have been infected with Covid-19 in the past time, these children will be vaccinated after 3 months. The whole district has 5,600 children in grade 6, the number of children infected with Covid-19 is about 2,800 children.

“Today, about 1,200 children are injected, the rest are eligible to organize injections if the family agrees,” Ms. Binh said.

Director of the Department of Health Tran Thi Nhi Ha said that the city has checked all children of the age in the area, a total of about one million children. The health sector has fully deployed medical equipment and human resources for the injection plan. From tomorrow, the city will deploy the injection simultaneously in all 30 districts.

“The city mobilizes first- and second-class hospitals and organizes an emergency council of experts to be ready to provide professional support,” said Ms. Ha.

According to Ms. Ha, the vaccination campaign needs the support and consent of the students’ parents. The results of vaccine coverage in recent ages show that Hanoi has succeeded in controlling the epidemic, bringing socio-economic activities back to normal, and children being able to go to school.

Hanoi will implement the plan to gradually lower the age, first injecting for 6th grade, then 5th grade, and finally injecting for 5 year old children. The city is trying to get vaccinated in 10 days to finish this vaccination.

According to the guidance of the Ministry of Health, children infected with Covid-19 should delay vaccination after 3 months, then carry out normal vaccination. The health sector has prepared vaccination sites for these children.

Previously, on April 14, Quang Ninh is the first locality to vaccinate children 5-11 years old with Covid-19 vaccine, with nearly 170 children being vaccinated.

The Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology has allocated 921,600 doses of Moderna vaccine to 63 provinces and cities, of which Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City received 87,500 doses. This vaccine phase is given priority to vaccinate children 11 to under 12 years old, each child is injected with a dose of 0.25 ml. These vaccines were in the batch returned home on April 9, funded by Australia.
