Oil tanker explosion off Hong Kong (China), cause unknown

According to France’s AFP news agency, the Flight Services Authority of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region said it was informed at about 3:06 pm (Vietnam time) that an oil tanker had exploded in the sea 300 miles from Hong Kong. km east. There is no word yet on the cause of the explosion.

Local authorities dispatched a fixed-wing aircraft and two helicopters to rescue the seven crew members who were reported injured. One person was dead by the time the rescue team arrived at the anchorage of the crashed ship “Chuang Yi” registered in Panama and with a tonnage of 9,995 tons. Three Indonesian crew members in their 30s were seriously injured, of which one suffered second-degree burns on more than 30% of his body. The other two crew members are also Indonesian and one is from Myanmar. All were between the ages of 30 and 40 and had minor injuries.

It is not possible to confirm whether there was an oil spill after the explosion because of limited visibility due to darkness.
