Sinking ship carrying 1,000 tons of oil off the coast of Tunisia

Over the years, some coastal areas of Tunisia have been severely polluted.

The Tunisian Ministry of Environment said that the cause of the sinking of the ship was determined to be bad weather and the sea level that flooded the ship was up to 2 meters high.

According to the ministry, marine lifeguards will set up a “fence” to prevent the oil from spreading over a large area as well as try to anchor the ship before using a large-capacity pump to suck up the spilled oil.

For many years, some coastal areas of Tunisia have been severely polluted because many industrial plants in the region discharge untreated wastewater directly into the sea.
