Seeing the student pointing at the neck and unable to talk, the female teacher quickly understood the situation and immediately implemented the Heimlich method to save the child’s life.

According to the Daily Mail, the incident happened on April 6 at East Orange Community Charter School (East Orange City, New Jersey State, USA). The entire incident was recorded by a school surveillance camera.

It can be seen that a boy named Robert Stoner (9 years old, 3rd grade student) tries to open the cap of a water bottle to drink during math class. Because he couldn’t open the bottle cap by hand, Robert tried to use his mouth, but an unfortunate accident happened.

“I used my teeth to open the cap of the water bottle, in the meantime I squeezed the water bottle a little and the water pushed the bottle cap straight into my throat,” Robert told WABC.

Immediately, the 3rd grade male student ran towards the sink at the back of the classroom and tried to cough to let the bottle cap that was stuck in his throat shoot out, but couldn’t. At this time, the boy hurriedly ran upstairs to ask for help from the teacher.

Robert recalls: “I rushed to the sink to spit out the bottle cap, but I couldn’t, so I immediately went to the teacher.”

Video taken from the camera shows Robert rushing towards the teacher’s desk and clutching his throat with a face full of panic and worry. As soon as she saw Robert pointing at his throat, teacher JaNeice Jenkins immediately understood the situation and performed a series of rescue actions. A few seconds later, the bottle cap popped out of Robert’s mouth, allowing him to breathe normally.

“Robert ran up to me, pointed at his throat and looked confused. He couldn’t talk, so I turned Robert around and started the Heimlich maneuver. At that time I really didn’t think much, just acted quickly. Robert couldn’t breathe, his face was pale and full of despair. I saw my students need help, so I started taking action right away,” JaNeice Jenkins told NJ.com.

The teacher added: “After Robert was safe, I took him to see the nurse for a check-up. Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief. This is the first time I have performed the Heimlich method of first aid, but fortunately it was successful.”

It is known that Jenkins has worked at East Orange Community Charter School for 5 years. Before that, she received training in CPR and basic first aid as a preschool teacher. Recently, the female teacher also participated in a refresher course. Therefore, when he discovered that Robert had choked on the bottle cap, Jenkins immediately understood what he had to do.

After the incident, the female teacher was hailed as a hero for helping her students overcome a dangerous situation. Robert is a fan of superheroes, so with this male student, Jenkins is currently his favorite hero.

“That dangerous situation could lead to an undesirable outcome. We are grateful and proud of Ms. Jenkins. Instead of panicking and panicking, she recalled what she learned in CPR training and used those skills to save her students’ lives,” said Tracey Watkins, Principal of East Orange Community School Charter said.

Reportedly, the school and the city of East Orange plan to acknowledge Jenkins’ brave act over the next few days.
