However, in fact, are the tyrannosaurs as majestic as people think? Recent studies have shown that this creature is not exactly at the top of the food chain, nor is it as heroic as the movies make it to be. In fact, they are the ones who specialize in “stealing” to survive.

The body is too heavy

If we know a little about physics, we will know that the dinosaur’s body is too massive, not suitable for hunting prey. In terms of size, the tyrannosaur was more than 12 meters long, 4 meters high, and weighed 7 tons, which is slightly larger than an adult elephant. And as the mass increases, the flexibility decreases exponentially.

For example elephants, with their mass, they are the only land animals that cannot jump, because their bodies are not strong enough to lift the total weight they are carrying.

In addition, the body structure with the forelimbs atrophied, tyrannosaurs could not rotate flexibly because of the lack of force-directing pillars. The forelimbs, with their large heads, long necks, and long and heavy tails, are balanced on their hind legs, making it impossible for them to turn left and right quickly.

An easy example is an adult carrying a large wooden stick on his shoulder, he cannot rotate flexibly.

Therefore, tyrannosaurs could not hunt creatures smaller than themselves (most dinosaurs of the time were smaller than T-rex) because they turned more flexibly and could quickly escape.

Eat carrion?

There is a hypothesis put forward by many scientists, that the tyrannosaurs lived mainly on carrion, eating back from the hunts of other species. Typically that is Jack Horner, a consultant for the hit series “Jurassic Park”.

“It is a gross, disgusting, and foul-smelling species. There is no evidence that they are predators.” That’s what Jack Horner said about tyrannosaurs.

But this hypothesis is also difficult to stand, because with its massive mass, tyrannosaurs needed a large amount of food every day. Eating carrion means that they cannot be proactive about food sources.

And if scavenging, the mechanism of evolution would not provide tyrannosaurs with such a pair of super strong jaws. It is the pair of jaws with the strongest bite force of all land animals ever recorded.

Truth: Thieves

After all of the above theories, the most correct one is this: Tyrannosaurs were ambush predators. They will wait in a certain grove to stalk their prey. Waiting for prey to approach, they rush out with a strong force from their muscular legs. Their large bodies also give them high kinetic energy. They charge straight for their prey and deliver a deadly bite from their super strong jaws, then kill and eat.

To make it easier to understand, this way of hunting is similar to crocodiles: Hide, wait for prey and rush to attack in a flash.

Of course, it is not excluded that the tyrannosaur will compete for other people’s prey when given the opportunity. They threaten the opponent with their large body and then snatch their prey to eat. With that said, they need extremely large amounts of food so they need to be omnivorous about everything they can.
