Electric cars take the throne at the Bangkok Motor Show

Of the 30 latest car models on display at this year’s exhibition, more than 20 are tram. This is a confirmation that electric cars will continue to be the trend of the future.

The excitement has returned with the Bangkok Motor Show. It is not difficult to spot the tram stalls that attract the most attention. Gasoline prices in Thailand have increased by 50% compared to last year, leading to worries about costs that make many people tend to switch to electric cars. They see this as a long-term cost-saving solution.

Ms. Natnicha Srimuang, a visitor to the exhibition, said: “The cost of living is too high, especially gas prices. So I’m here looking to buy an electric car”.

“I tried switching from petrol to electric. Before, I had to pay around 4,000 – 5,000 Baht per month for petrol but for electricity it costs only 1,500 – 1,600 Baht per month. I will invest my money into a suitable electric vehicle” – Ms. Patricia Duangcham, a visitor to the exhibition, said.

This year’s Bangkok Motor Show is also the first exhibition since the Thai Government decided to subsidize 15% to encourage consumption and production of electric vehicles in the country. The demand for electric vehicles in Thailand is increasing day by day. Last year, the number of newly registered electric cars doubled to about 4,000 units.

The big concern when buying an electric car is that the battery runs out quickly, but now battery technology has partly solved it. For example, a new electric vehicle can run for a distance of 480 km after a full charge.
