Fear of shortage of preschool teachers in Hanoi

Last week, Hanoi officially welcomed children Preschool back to school. In the morning when we go to the street, we see the familiar image of parents holding two children under the armpits with big briefcases, weaving through the rush of people jostling because of traffic jams. Thus, normal life has really returned to the way it was before: children go to school, adults go to work. Although there is still an epidemic somewhere, the fear of COVID-19 has subsided.

After nearly a week of going to school, many preschools in the capital have organized fun programs in the classroom to inspire the children, so the psychology of the students has gradually stabilized, no more crying for their father. mom. Boarding meals are also organized by schools as soon as students return to school. According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi is the locality where preschool children stay at home the longest. More than 1,100 preschool institutions in the city have had to close completely since April 2021. After April 13, all 2.2 million preschool children and high school students in Hanoi will be able to fully attend school.

Re-opening, public schools are quite convenient, no one has quit their teachers, and classrooms are maintained clean. The private sector alone faces many challenges. In these days, many kindergartens in Hanoi are looking for every solution to overcome their financial and personnel difficulties.

The worry of lack of preschool teachers in Hanoi

“This room is the room to store the remaining belongings of the old facility. When the facility is dissolved, I will move it up here” – The furniture is as messy as the mood of Ms. Ngan – the owner of the Blue Star preschool in Nam Tu Liem district at this time.

Before that, Ms. Ngan was forced to dissolve a facility because she could not hold out any longer. The remaining establishments are having problems with renting space. In the first days of school, students must gather enough to form a class.

Ms. Ngan shared: “When deciding to dissolve our facility, we also pondered a lot about where the students would learn, where the teachers would go. Now that we can start going to school, we can welcome 38% of the old students back to school.”

In Nam Tu Liem district, the number of students studying in private preschools is 5000 more than in public schools. Therefore, it is very important to ensure a place for children to study in the face of the fact that some non-public schools have to be dissolved.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Tham, Deputy Head of the Education and Training Department of Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi said:There are 10 groups of children who, during the recent difficult time, have also applied for dissolution with the number of 360 students. The Department of Education has directed the public schools to accept all the children in that dissolved group.”

According to statistics, nearly 250 private schools and groups of preschool classes in the capital have had to close from 2021 up to now.

Schools reopening, hundreds of worries. Like the Children’s House School (Thanh Tri district, Hanoi), which has just renovated and welcomed students back, now maintains 3 instead of 5 classes as before, also because it is difficult to find teachers. The owner of this facility said that the school had 75 students in the past, divided into 5 classes with 10 teachers. However, now there are only 6 teachers back to teaching, so the number of classes that can be maintained has also decreased accordingly.

Having the same problem with the above school, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung, Principal of Hoa Mai Kindergarten, Hoai Duc district, Hanoi said:The school was short of a lot of teachers, because during the long break there were girls who changed careers, then got used to other jobs. Now that they want to return to their profession, they are also thinking about it, so the school is also encouraging them to come back.”

Of the nearly 600,000 preschool students in Hanoi, nearly 30% of them attend private schools.

It is forecasted that starting from May, when 100% of children go back to school, then the problem of shortage of daycare and preschool teachers will become even more difficult.

Support private preschool teachers

According to the Department of Early Childhood Education – Ministry of Education and Training, preschool teachers, especially non-public preschools in the coming time, are subjects that need special attention. And the government has also seen this, specifically in the recent resolution No. 12, it had the task of assigning the Ministry to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance to submit to the government for promulgation a resolution to support non-public preschool teachers to These teachers are back to work. Previously, many private preschool teachers have also received support from a support package of VND 26,000 billion under Resolution 68 of the government. However, this number is really not much.
