Few car companies let employees watch as many movies as Volkswagen China

Volkswagen has recently been forced to suspend operations at its Shanghai factory due to the strict social distancing that is being applied by China for a long time to limit the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

In the first stage, the workers at the Volkswagen China factory volunteered to self-isolate at the factory so they could continue working, but the complicated development of COVID-19 also forced the production lines here to stop operating. China’s social distancing policy restricts these people from going home, thus leading to them being trapped in factories.

According to Bloomberg, Volkswagen has outlined a specific timetable for workers who are stuck at the factory. Their new day begins with a mandatory COVID test, followed by a 10am exercise walk around the factory. They then have a 2 hour break from 11am to 1pm, followed by a full afternoon of leisure – when they choose to kill time by… playing cards or watching movies.

At 4 pm, the workers are mobilized to exercise, then have dinner, take a shower and… watch movies/play cards again. The cleaning and garbage collection is done voluntarily by the groups.

Before that, in China, most of the car factories had to close since March, only the GM factory achieved a closed production stage.

Volkswagen China has not commented on the above information.
