Teaching art in the new 10th grade curriculum

Under the current program, pupil high school only study art including Music and Fine Arts at the elementary level. 7 years in middle school and high school, they didn’t study art. For many 9th graders this year, the fact that the upcoming 10th graders will be able to choose these subjects makes them excited.

“Learning art will help us relieve pressure and be creative,” shared Lam Bach Son, a student at Binh Dong Secondary School, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City.

According to experts, bringing art into teaching at high school has many advantages. First of all, this is the digital age, the explosion of the Internet makes design, graphic or multimedia art skills an advantage. The foundation of these skills is Music and Fine Arts. Besides, a bright point of art learning in high school can be said that this will be a means to help them balance their psychology.

Obviously, bringing art into teaching in the 3 years of high school will contribute to improving creativity, developing students’ abilities and qualities. However, one of the biggest difficulties today, not only in Ho Chi Minh City but also in many provinces and cities across the country, is the serious lack of human resources to teach this subject.
