The basic mistake that causes passengers to waste money without knowing

Booking business tickets on the website, buying water or changing foreign currency at the airport… makes passengers spend more money than necessary.

An American flight attendant shared on Insider What not to do if you want to save money.

Buy things at duty-free shops

In fact, many items in duty-free shop more expensive than you buy outside. Therefore, if you want to buy something of great value, check the price difference at the regular stores. In addition, these bag from duty free shop may be of help to you.

Exchange money at the airport

Many people often go to the currency exchange counter as soon as they land. But the airport is one of those places where you’ll never get a good exchange rate. Go to banks, shopping malls… for more reasonable rates.

Buy water at the airport

Going by plane is very expensive because you have to buy tickets and checked baggage, pay for taxis… Don’t waste any more money buying bottled water. You may not be allowed to bring a bottle of liquid through the screening window, but no one is stopping you from bringing an empty bottle. Once inside the airport, you can get water from the fountains for free. On the plane, you can ask the flight attendant to fill the bottle with water.

The same goes for food at the airport and on the plane. You can bring them to go from home. If you’re flying internationally, it’s best to use up all your food before you land, to avoid fined or refused entry because bring stuff inside ban list.

Book business class tickets online

You should buy an economy ticket through the website, then go to the airport to pay more to get an upgrade. The cost will be cheaper than the amount you buy directly on business class tickets online. “I know this sounds weird, but always recommend it to friends. If it’s a flight with lots of seats, or you’re a loyal customer, you can get a free upgrade. Even if you have to pay, it’s still cheaper than buying online,” shared the unnamed hostess.

Buy tickets on the weekend

There’s no perfect formula to get the cheapest tickets, but it’s cheaper to book flights on weekdays than on weekends. Fares on Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to be cheaper than other days. Therefore, if the flight schedule is flexible, choose the cheapest date.

One airline at a time

Many passengers tend to choose flights by price – the airline that sells the cheapest tickets will book. But if you become a loyal customer of a company, you will receive more incentives. Open a points card to accumulate miles, sometimes you even get free check-in, upgrade or eat all you want in the airport lounge.
