The turbulent trip helps the girl find the husband she wants

BrotherWhen Sarah Richard was feeling bored because she didn’t know what to do for more than 90 minutes on the train home, Joel appeared.

Sarah Richard, 33, is the founder of Girls that Scuba, the world’s largest scuba diving community for women. She often goes to Jordan, Egypt, Mexico, Maldives or Indonesia… to organize diving trips before the pandemic.

It all started in December 2018, Sarah returned to her hometown of Hastings, England after living in Mexico for four months. She stayed in town for a few days and then took the train to London to meet friends from Hong Kong. In the evening, when I took the train home, the subway station closed early for repairs. She hurriedly got into a taxi to the central station in hopes of catching the next train, but then missed because of the traffic jam.

Waiting in the station for an hour, Sarah’s phone ran out of battery. So she couldn’t tell her friends in Hastings. “Finally, I caught the train home and was very excited to join the party that friends had arranged before. The train ran for about 30 minutes and had to stop because it broke down. Everyone had to get off the train, go back to the platform in London. “, Sarah recalls the constant events she faced on her way home. After waiting for another 90 minutes, the last train of the night arrived. But her phone ran out of battery, she didn’t know what to do during the time she was on the train. And that’s when Joel Gostling, the love of her life later, walked over and sat down next to her.

The two started chatting almost immediately and talked about everything during their trip to Hastings. “He’s a standard British guy, simple and easy to talk to. He has fields of asparagus and is not materially important. Joel appreciates my travels, and loves life very much. my farm,” Sarah recalls.

Joel grew up in a village called Dalwood, Devon, where the primary school had about 30 students. After working at a restaurant and cooking school, Joel decided to turn the fields his parents left behind into an asparagus farm in 2015. He sold his harvest to restaurants in the area. .

At the end of the journey, Joel asks Sarah for her phone number. But she does not know her phone number, because she just bought a new sim when entering the UK. Her phone ran out of battery. “But I also wanted to get to know him. So I told him to Google my name, and it would go to Instagram with my email address,” she said.

The next day, Sarah flew to Finland to spend Christmas with her brother’s family. She hoped to hear from Joel. For his part, Joel said: “She was interesting, beautiful, mysterious and attractive. I knew I couldn’t leave without asking how to contact her.” So they started communicating. During business trips, Sarah also often stops in England. “My travel schedule is always packed. He knows it’s my way of life. And it always will be,” Sarah said.

Like Sarah, Joel is also a workaholic. They focus on work, and cherish the rare time together. In 2019, they live together. “I realized that I wanted to be around someone who had completely opposite interests from me. It helped me focus on my work, and then come home and enjoy different things,” Sarah said. The only thing Joel changed in his routine was picking up Sarah at the airport after each trip. And each time he came, he greeted Sarah with a different sign.

On December 15, 2019, exactly one year after meeting on the train, Joel proposed to Sarah. He asked Lucy, Sarah’s best friend, to invite her to see the musical “The Lion King” in London. At the platform when Lucy got off the train, Joel suddenly appeared and knelt to propose.

After the engagement, Sarah continued to travel the world and Joel continued to work on the farm. In early 2020, Sarah went to Jordan to open a branch. The couple moved there together. Joel is expected to return to England during the bamboo shoot season. But four days after arriving in Jordan, a pandemic broke out. They spent nearly $4,000 to buy repatriation flight tickets organized by the British embassy.

When they returned home, the two had no income due to the impact of the epidemic. “When global travel came to a complete halt, I lost most of my income because they came from taking people to travel and to events. So did Joel because he’s in the restaurant industry. “. Without their own home, their income decreased, and the two had to move in with Joel’s parents in Devon.

At first, Sarah thought things were terrible. But luck smiled. Joel is invited to cooperate in opening a store. The dish that Joel’s shop is being loved by many people is burgers. In May 2021, Sarah and Joel opened their own restaurant called Soulshine, serving seasonal meals. The pandemic turned Sarah’s nomadic life in a different direction. Although she did not get to travel as much as before, she still worked hard, looking for places to dive along the English coast.

“From a chance meeting, we have been together despite the difficult times. We both feel at ease knowing that we are with the person we want to be with. “, said Sarah. “Even when we spend all of the day together, I still like her. The pandemic is also a good test for us because it has discovered that we can overcome anything,” Joel co- idea.

Initially, the two planned to get married in mid-2020, but the pandemic pushed them back to September 2021. The couple enjoyed a three-week late honeymoon in Lapland, Finland and Turkey.

After the wedding, Sarah continued her work. She started traveling around the world. The couple also moved out, and Joel's restaurant thrived.
