1,000 points in Monte Carlo helped Tsitsipas rise to second in the ATP Race to Turin table, the race to win eight tickets to the year-end ATP Finals. As for the ATP rankings, Tsitsipas did not get any more points and still ranked fifth with 5,980 points, below Rafael NadalAlexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic. To break into the top two in the coming months, Tsitsipas must surpass Djokovic or Medvedev. The Greek player also defended 1,200 points at Roland Garros, where he was runner-up last year.

“My problem is to adjust well to other surfaces,” said Tsitsipas of his form. “I want to play well on grass, because I feel like I can get a lot of points there. If I keep the same consistency as on clay, I can win a lot of games. I really want to finish this year in top 2 ATP”.

Tsitsipas’ best position is number three ATP, August 2021. The title thirst lasted nearly a year from May 2021, causing the Greek tennis player to drop to fifth. Only five players still playing have ever reached the top 2 ATP are Djokovic, MedvedevNadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray. These five have all climbed to number one in the world, most recently Medvedev in February.

“I usually play well on clay and have also performed well on hard courts,” added Tsitsipas. “It feels like I haven’t really worked hard on hard courts. Sometimes that’s not the right way to do it. What happens on clay has taught me how to adjust myself. I never obsess over it. that I will bring everything I do on clay to apply to other courts.”

Tsitsipas will attend this week’s Barcelona Open, where he is the number one seed. The 23-year-old has lost the final of this tournament twice, both to Nadal, in 2018 and 2021. This year’s tournament features top seeds such as Casper Ruud, Carlos Alcaraz, Cameron Norrie and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
