Ukraine has completed answering the questionnaire for EU accession

Ukraine has completed answering the necessary set of questions for the European Commission (EC) to recommend to the Council of the European Union (EU) to start discussions on the possibility of its admission.

In an interview with TV channel “1+1” on April 17, Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Chief of the Office of the President of Ukraine, announced: “As the President (Volodymyr Zelensky) confirmed to EC President Ursula von der Leyen when she visits Ukraine on April 8, Ukraine will complete the questionnaire within a week.”

After receiving the set of responses, the EC will begin to prepare recommendations based on Ukraine meeting the criteria. join the EU.

Mr. Ihor Zhovkva hopes that, based on the information provided to the EC, Ukraine will be eligible to apply for EU membership in June.

The document containing the questionnaires for EU accession was given to Ukrainian President Zelensky by EC President Ursula von der Leyen himself during his visit to Kiev in April.

“Next, we’ll need to start the (EU) accession talks. Once we hold those talks, we’ll probably be ready to talk about full Ukraine membership. in the EU,” added Deputy Chief of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Becoming an EU member means a lot to Ukraine. A provision in the EU treaty states that, if one member becomes the victim of armed aggression, other EU states are obligated to aid and assist in any way they can.

For their part, the leaders of the EC and EU both pledged to speed up the process of bringing this country into the common European house.
