9 people poisoned toe leaves

After eating for about 30 minutes, all 9 people had headaches and dizziness, and were taken to the emergency room.

After gastric lavage, activated charcoal and intravenous fluids, the patient’s health is temporarily stable, some still have dizziness and numbness in their hands and feet. Because the poison in the leaves is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and can affect the nerves, liver, and kidneys, 9 patients continue to be tested and monitored.

In Vietnam, leaves are considered as one of the four most toxic plants (belonging to Group A toxicity), containing a deadly toxic substance called Alkaloid. Leaves are very similar to many medicinal plants and edible vegetables, so it is easy to cause confusion. People with leaf poisoning have many symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, weakness, difficulty in movement of limbs. In severe cases, it can cause complete muscle paralysis, weak breathing leading to respiratory failure, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, cardiac arrest, convulsions.

The doctor advised people to be very careful when picking forest trees for medicine or for food. When detecting people with leaf poisoning, must quickly remove the poison from the body by measures to induce vomiting, then transfer the victim to the nearest medical facility for treatment of gastric lavage, drinking activated charcoal. therapy, intravenous fluids, antidote treatment, avoid serious complications, risk of death.
