Ancient women in Phan Cam Thuong’s paintings

“Phan Cam Thuong painting exhibition” lasts from April 14 to May 9 at The Muse Artspace, introducing 23 works mainly created by the artist during the epidemic. Phan Cam Thuong said that in the process of restoring ancient statues, he was impressed by the costumes and some customs of the 17th century. The artist created a series of paintings based on historical research and fiction. Phan Cam Thuong planned to exhibit from 2021 but had to postpone many times due to the epidemic.

The painting “Old Cloud” composed in 2021, natural color material on dó paper, depicts three girls wearing ancient and modern costumes, with a black dragon embroidered robe on the back. The artist uses two colors of orange and green as accents, creating a strong contrast. “The costumes change from time to time, but the beauty of people is still the same in essence,” the artist said.
