East Timor elects president
People East Timor on April 19, voted for the second round of presidential elections, according to AFP.
About 860,000 voters in this country of 1.3 million people have to choose between two candidates, the incumbent President Francisco Guterres of the Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor (FRETILIN) party and former President Jose Ramos-Horta, the candidate supported by the National Congress for the Reconstruction of Timor (CNRT). Two people led among 16 candidates in the first round of voting on March 19 with 22% and 46% votes respectively.

The winner will begin his five-year presidency on May 20, the 20th anniversary of East Timor’s independence from Indonesia.
