Mitsubishi Xpander 2022 will launch Vietnamese customers in June

After some images appeared at Hai Phong port, Xpander 2022 continued to appear when testing on a highway in Hanoi. A source of VnExpress said that the MPV model is in the process of registration and if completed, the car is expected to be launched in the market in June.

The domestic version this time will be mainly automatic transmission cars, while the temporary manual transmission cars will still be the old version. Equipping the Vietnamese version will be similar to the one in Indonesia.

The most obvious change in the exterior is the redesigned headlights, creating a horizontal T-shape. The daytime positioning lights are set higher. The face of the steering wheel and the rear of the car are also tweaked.

The size of the Mitsubishi Xpander 2022 is slightly longer and taller than its predecessor. Ground clearance increased to 225 mm, the largest in the small MPV segment. Blade-shaped 17-inch wheels are also a new design.

Interior part of MPV model of Mitsubishi get more changes. In which the steering wheel has a new design. The infotainment screen is larger, placed on the dashboard. The company removed the mechanical handbrake and replaced it with an electronic lever. Automatic brake hold (Auto Hold) is also available on the new Xpander. Compared to the old version, the interior space of the new Xpander is more airy and spacious.

Vietnam is the fourth market in Southeast Asia to receive the Xpander 2022. The engine of the car is still a 1.5-liter MIVEC with a capacity of 104 hp. Besides the 5-speed manual option, the car also has an automatic configuration. In Indonesia and Thailand, the Xpander comes with a new CVT transmission, while in the Philippines the same 4-speed automatic as the old version. It is not clear which new Xpander gearbox in Vietnam is equipped.

After 4 years in a row holding the number one best-selling position in the segment Small MPV In Vietnam (2018-2021), Mitsubishi Xpander is facing a lot of pressure in 2022. After Innova’s decline, Toyota Launching Avanza Premio and Veloz Cross last March. With the goal of more than 1,500 vehicles per month for this product duo, the ambition of the Japanese joint venture is nothing more than to split the market share with Mitsubishi.

Although Suzuki has not been able to create a fair competition with its rivals, XL7 is still helping the sales of Japanese firms to prosper in Vietnam. Besides XL7, the company also has Ertiga at a lower price range. Both have also had a slight upgrade, the price increased by about 10 million. Another model that is about to enter the segment is the Kia Carens, the name that replaces the old Rondo.

At the end of March, Mitsubishi Xpander still leads the segment with more than 3,800 vehicles, far ahead of competitors. The following car models are like Suzuki XL7 with 1,580 cars, Toyota Veloz Cross 649 cars (sold from the end of March).
