Philippine Ambassador to China dies in quarantine hotel

According to SCMP, Mr. Sta. Romana is in quarantine after attending an important meeting between the foreign ministers of China and the Philippines. It is not known if he has the disease COVID-19 or not.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said: “We deeply mourn the loss of a good friend and offer our deepest condolences to his loved ones. He worked diligently and hard, making an important contribution to promoting the bilateral relationship and friendship between the two peoples.”

According to Mr. Uong, diplomat Sta. Romana “famous for his profound knowledge of China”.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, in a statement about Mr. Sta. Romana passed away, said after he was appointed in December 2016, “Philippines-China relations have developed brilliantly despite their differences, in the direction of becoming more mature and deepening.”
