The highest-paid CEOs in the US in 2021

Walgreens CEO Roz Brewer is the highest-paid female CEO in the US in 2021, according to a new study by Equilar. Brewer’s total income was $28.3 million — which included $20.2 million in the form of stock bonuses.

Equilar’s study looked at the 100 largest US companies by revenue that were disclosed before March 31. In this list, there are 9 female CEOs, up from 6 CEOs last year. However, no female CEO made it into the Top 10 highest-earning CEOs.

Walgreens CEO Brewer ranked 14th in the Top 100. The earnings of some other female executives are as follows:

#15: UPS CEO Carol Tome ($27.6 million)

#24: General Dynamics CEO Phebe Novakovic ($23.6 million)

#29: Accenture CEO Julie Sweet ($23.1 million)

#45: Citigroup CEO, Jane Fraser ($20.5 million)

#64: Duke Energy CEO Lynn Good (16.2 million)

#78: Progressive CEO, Susan Griffith (14.5 million)

#85: Occidental Petroleum CEO Vicki Hollub (11.1 million)

#87: CEO Safra Katz, Oracle ($10.6 million)

Last year’s highest-paid CEO was Patrick Gelsinger of Intel. He received $177.9 million, of which nearly $170 million was in stock and options bonuses. Apple CEO Tim Cook ranked second with $98.7 million – including $82.3 million in bonus shares.

Equilar data shows that the salary of US CEOs has increased again after the Covid-19 epidemics. Businesses reward leaders who have stayed and steered businesses through the waves of the pandemic. The stock market boom further increased the value of stock bonuses.

However, the pay gap between executives and employees is also widening. On average, CEOs earn $254 for every dollar employees receive.

Average wages for American workers increased from $68,883 in 2020 to $71,869 in 2021. However, the 4.3% increase did not help workers keep up with the rapid increase in prices.
